Portrait Party

Painting can be an alternative to talking or writing about something.  There are an infinite number of variables involved – objective, subject matter, mood, personal style, time, medium, colour, tone, brushstrokes, size, etc etc.  Everything remains fluid and nothing is fixed.  Painting is a great place to think and try out ideas.  Painting is somewhere to go and be and stay a while.

I’m fascinated by the endless possibilities of the face and the ebb and flow of portraiture.  What happens over time and who exactly is looking at who? Likeness might be the beginning or a way in but a portrait offers much more to ponder.  It could be a place to recognise and converse with yourself, somewhere to pose a question or capture both strength and vulnerability.
