I’ve upsized to A2 paper and switched to acrylic paint facilitating a greater intensity of colour on the paper. The white space is highlighted by a strong ground colour. The bold contrasting coloured line containing the head and shoulders directs and holds the viewer’s gaze on the face.

These faces are no longer cartoon like and have become more real. Recognise W B Yeats second row far left?
A strong black line draws attention to the face and contains the white space of the shoulders.

I’m now using a Daler Rowney A5 pad and Caran D’Ache water soluble wax pastels. The portraits are still cartoon like with exaggerated distorted facial features. Each engages intensely with the viewer. Peter Cushing is bottom right.
