These faces are no longer cartoon like and have become more real. Recognise W B Yeats second row far left?
A strong black line draws attention to the face and contains the white space of the shoulders. There is little emphasis on the neck area. Some subjects do not meet the viewer’s gaze. The style is pared back. The heads appear to float separate from the body. I definitely felt like this during lockdown. All disconnected and detached not only from friends and family but also from myself. An image reminiscent of Descartes theory of dualism and the idea of the mind and body existing separately.
